90% of Mexicans suffer from gingivitis
Grinding your teeth can be very harmful to your health.

Periodontal cases have increased since Covid-19 confinement.

Gingivitis is the main gum disease. The Mexican Dental Association (ADM), records that 90% of Mexicans suffer from it and if left untreated it turns into periodontitis in some cases.

La Clínica Dental Lindavista te explica: ¿Qué es la gingivitis? What is gingivitis?

“Gingivitis is the inflammation and pain of the gums, it arises from the accumulation of tartar due to lack of a good brushing technique, this plaque accumulates on the teeth, sticking to the gums and can cause bleeding as it inflames them.”

Dr. Rosa Ma. Moctezuma, Director of La Clínica Dental, Satélite branch office

Some symptoms of gingivitis are easy to detect when performing daily dental hygiene since, during this, bleeding, inflammation or pain may occur, main indicators of dental anomaly, according to the specialists of La Clínica Dental.

What causes it?

Due to the confinement that has been experienced in recent months, it has been recorded that the Mexican population suffers from stress, in addition, many companies adapted their way of operating to home office, which generated changes in people’s eating habits and hygiene.

The main causes of gingivitis are due to poor brushing technique, oral hygiene, smoking, sometimes it occurs when undergoing hormonal treatment, during puberty, menstrual cycle, or pregnancy; also due to the consumption of certain medications or poor nutrition. Sometimes, when gingivitis is not treated, it turns into periodontitis.

What is periodontitis?

It is a disease that arises from poor tooth brushing technique or when people do not brush their teeth. It is the accumulation of tartar under the gum that causes a bacterial infection of the specialized tissues, ligaments and bones that surround and support the teeth, known as the periodontium.

It is the second and most serious phase of gingival disease, which, in addition, the factors that aggravate periodontitis are the same as in gingivitis, in periodontitis the symptoms may be the same, however, when periodontitis is very advanced there may also be mobility in the teeth.

Taking care of yourself in the new normal

In the new normality, it has been detected that patients who go to the dentist for dental discomfort have been mainly cases of periodontitis, due to the stress they have experienced because of the confinement and home office, adapting to changes is not easy and unfortunately they have been of little benefit to dental health as hygiene has been neglected mainly, causing diseases such as periodontitis.

The specialists at The Boutique Dental Clinic explain that, “to treat periodontics, scaling and root planing is performed as a deep cleaning measure involves scraping and removing plaque and tartar from the teeth above and below the gum line.”

Antibiotics are then administered to prevent the spread of infection and inflammation in the mouth. They come in different forms ranging from medicated mouthwashes to antibiotic gels or fibers, which are placed in the gum pockets to slowly kill the bacteria and help the gums heal.

Treatment

At The Boutique Dental Clinic they share that there are more advanced cases of periodontitis in which a periodontal specialist may be required to open and clean the affected gum pockets and then suture the gums so that they are securely attached to the teeth.

If the gum tissue is too damaged to suture, the specialist must remove healthy gum tissue from another part of the mouth and sew it over the affected gum. The graft replaces the diseased tissue and helps anchor and support the teeth.

At La Clinica Dental Boutique , patients are advised on the importance of having at least one check-up every 6 months, in which by means of a Complete Digital Diagnosis (DCD) the current state of the mouth can be seen and treated for optimal dental health.

It is important to continue doing it in the new normality with the necessary safety measures. Go to the specialists of La Clinica Dental Boutique because they have all the technology and knowledge to perform dental treatment and thus, the patient will have a definitive solution and speedy recovery.
